Bothell, Wash., November 6, 2007 - Aculight Corporation, a leading developer of innovative laser technologies, has appointed Dr. Robert Afzal Vice President of Research and Development. Cheryl DeBoise has also been hired as Chief Financial Officer.

"Rob Afzal's promotion to vice president of research and development is a testimony to his proven reputation as a recognized researcher but even more so to his strength as a leader," said Don Rich, Aculight president and CEO. "Since joining Aculight a year ago he has worked to build trust-based relationships that foster mutual success with team members and customers. Rob's experience at developing laser products for the harshest environments combined with his ability to develop teams that provide innovative solutions to our customers' most difficult needs will be critical to Aculight's growth."

Rich also said, "Cheryl DeBoise comes to Aculight with experience and an excellent reputation as a change agent. She has a unique perspective on the critical role that Finance plays in the growth of a company like Aculight. She provides actionable information about the health of the company and opportunities for improvement. Cheryl is a whirlwind of constructive activity and has already executed changes that will prove important to the company and our customers."

Dr. Robert Afzal was formerly Aculight's director of technology development. Prior to Aculight, Afzal was vice president of research and development for Spectra Systems Corporation. Previously, he held several positions within NASA, including scientist at the Goddard Space Flight Center, director of the Space Lidar Technology Center (SLTC) and chief scientist for Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) laser transmitters. Afzal has been awarded/filed patents on seven optical technologies and methods. He has been published in over 20 peer-reviewed journals and presented at over 25 conferences. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Brown University and a bachelor's in physics from Trinity College.

Cheryl DeBoise joins Aculight from Plymouth Housing Group, where she was responsible for finance, human resources, administration and information technology for the company and 11 related entities. Prior, she was an auditor for Watson & McDonell, PLLC. She has also been CFO and director of finance for Impact Capital, vice president of lending for Ventura County Credit Union, and regional business manager for EDS/TransAlliance. DeBoise was director at the YWCAs in both Seattle-King County-Snohomish County, Washington, and in Fresno, California. She earned a BA in business administration from the University of Washington and holds a Washington State CPA license.
