Press release date: January 9, 2014

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. - AXION International Holdings, Inc. (AXIH), a leader in recycled plastic and plastic composite technologies used to produce ECOTRAX® rail ties/sleepers and STRUXURE® building products, today announced that it has shipped an order to a second European railroad for in track testing. The shipment includes 700 sleepers and 3 switch sets and will be used on a narrow gauge passenger railway as part of their annual refurbishment and renewal program.

"The global adoption of AXION's ECOTRAX® ties/sleepers is evidenced by such continued support, recognition and sales of our rail products," stated AXION President and CEO Steve Silverman. "We are excited to be working with our European partner, Sicut Enterprises Limited, and expect to see more opportunities for sales orders through this partnership over the next 12 months. Europe is a fantastic market for our products as the region is very serious about sustainability and the rail industry is very technologically advanced.  Also Europe is working against a deadline that will potentially ban the use of creosote treated wood products by 2018.  ECOTRAX® ties have been proven to be resilient and impervious to climate changes offering longevity and higher ROI for our customers while also providing environmental benefits."

AXION currently sells its ECOTRAX® rail ties/sleepers to multiple domestic and international transit and freight railroads including a domestic class 1 contract and a trial with a second class 1.
