AWWA Announces Availability of Two New Publications

(DENVER) - The American Water Works Association (AWWA) announced today the publication of the 2008 Water and Wastewater Rate Survey, and Climate Change and Water: International Perspectives on Mitigation and Adaptation.

The 2008 Water and Wastewater Rate Survey is the most useful, accurate, and up-to-date reference on utility rates available. Data are provided for 308 water and wastewater utilities from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The survey includes data from utilities that serve from 1,000 to 9 million customers, making the survey relevant to utilities of all sizes. Data on all types of water and wastewater charges are complied in easy to use charts.

The survey was conducted in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008 with the objective of providing current data on rates as of July 1, 2008. It is intended to help utilities determine if their rate structure meeting revenue goals; how their rate structure compares with other utilities in their geographic region; how rates compare with other similar size utilities; and what the current trends in utility rate setting are.

The real power of this important survey comes from the companion interactive CD-ROM that allows the user to perform data sorts and analysis. The user-friendly program facilitates custom, in-depth analysis of the data by geographic region, state, system size, rate structure, system ownership and rates charged. Users can create detailed custom reports for export to Excel for further analysis.

Climate Change and Water presents state-of-the-science on how utilities can respond to global warming today and into the future. This compendium of scientific papers written by top international climate change experts addresses global warming and the dramatic affect it will have on water supply planning as utilities cope with variability and attempt to ensure an adequate supply and quality of water to meet year-round demand.

Readers will come to understand the impact that climate change will have on urban water and wastewater utilities, as well as the latest thinking on the issue as it relates to water resource management.

Both publications are available in AWWA's online bookstore at http://awwa.org/bookstore.
