Readers recognized AVX's TAZ HRC5000 Medical Grade Tantalum Capacitor Series as the most significant new product introduced to the medical engineering community in 2013

GREENVILLE, S.C.– AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, today announced that its TAZ HRC5000 Medical Grade Tantalum Capacitor Series has won Medical Design Briefs' 2013 Readers' Choice Product of the Year Award. Selected from amongst the 12 products recognized as a Medical Design Briefs Product of the Month throughout the year, the Readers' Choice Product of the Year Award honors the most significant new product introduced to the medical engineering community in 2013, as determined by raw reader votes.

"Medical Design Briefs editors selected AVX's TAZ HRC5000 Medical Grade Tantalum Capacitor Series as the December 2013 Product of the Month for its exceptional technical merit and practical value for MDB's design engineering readers, so it is with great pleasure that we congratulate AVX for having won our first annual Readers' Choice Product of the Year Award," said Beth Sisk, editor, Medical Design Briefs.

"We always appreciate being recognized for our commitment to bringing innovative, high-quality components to the marketplace," said AVX Vice President of Sales, Pete Venuto. "However, it is a special honor to be recognized by both the engineers whose design problems our products are specifically designed to solve, as well as by the knowledgeable editors who cover our industry. We are grateful to have won the Medical Design Briefs Readers' Choice Product of the Year Award and look forward to continuing to provide this industry with the specialized components it needs to succeed."

Designed for use in implantable medical devices, AVX's high-reliability TAZ HRC5000 Medical Grade Tantalum Capacitor Series is rated for 4V to 50V and -55C to +125C, has a capacitance range of 0.1F to 330F, and features extremely low DC leakage limits well below typical industry values (as low as 0.1A). Available in case sizes ranging from A-H, TAZ HRC5000 capacitors are also some of the smallest tantalum chip capacitors currently on the market. The series is available with several customization options to better suit individual medical and other high-reliability/low-leakage tantalum applications. These include custom DC leakage limits, various plating materials (tin/lead solder, 100% tin, or gold), and standard and low ESR variations, in addition to two reliability verification procedures: Weibull grading and surge current testing per MIL-PRF-55365. TAZ HRC5000 Medical Grade Tantalum Series parts are manufactured and tested at AVX's ISO 13485-certified, high-reliability tantalum manufacturing facility in Biddeford, Maine.
