ATi Introduces Brochure to Support its Ground-breaking New Ammonia Monitoring System

(August 24, 2007) Analytical Technology (ATi) has introduced a new brochure to support the recent launch of its ground-breaking Q45N Dissolved Ammonia and Chloramine Monitor. The brochure supplies essential information concerning this completely new approach to simultaneous on-line monitoring of chloramines and ammonia. With the Q45N monitor, measurement of both parameters essential to the treatment of potable water using chloramination can be carried out using one instrument. A simple single sensor system allows measurement of ammonia alone for a range of further applications including wastewater treatment, potable water treatment, river and stream water quality testing and ammonia-based heat exchangers in refrigeration chillers.

The brochure is titled 'Continuous, on-line monitoring of dissolved ammonia' and provides an insight into the issues underpinning ammonia monitoring. Continuous monitoring of ammonia in water and wastewater streams is becoming increasingly important for plant operations and process control, yet conventional on-line monitors can be expensive, complex and labour-intensive. The brochure describes how the new Q45N monitor uses reaction chemistry to convert ammonia in a solution to a stable monochloramine compound, equivalent in concentration to the original ammonia level. The chloramine concentration is then measured with a unique amperometric sensor that responds linearly to chloramines while eliminating interface from excess free chlorine in solution. When used in conjunction with second sensor chloramines, total ammonia and free ammonia are measured.

Dr. Mike Strahand, General Manager Europe at ATi, explains "Continuous, on-line monitoring of ammonia is becoming essential to many of our customers. ATi's new ammonia monitoring system represents a major step forward in providing users with a monitor that measure all the important parameters and is also both simple to use and economical to run with very low consumables costs of monitors."

The new Q45N monitor can also be used with ATi's market-leading free chlorine monitor to provide measurement of free chlorine, chloramines, free ammonia and total ammonia.
