ASTM recognizes Anthony E. Fiorato with Award of Merit.

March 23, 2009 - Consultant Anthony E. Fiorato of Glenview, IL, has received ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow. Fiorato was recognized for meritorious and dedicated leadership to ASTM Intl. Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates and to Society for service on board of directors and as chairman of the board. An active member for almost 30 years, Fiorato is chair of Committee C09 and also leads Executive Committee of Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 17 March 2009-Consultant Anthony E. Fiorato of Glenview, Ill., has received the ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow. The Award of Merit is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.

Fiorato was recognized "for meritorious and dedicated leadership to ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates and to the Society for service on the board of directors and as chairman of the board."

An active member of ASTM International for almost 30 years, Fiorato is chair of Committee C09, a committee of approximately 1,100 members, and also leads the Executive Committee of the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) (ASTM C01.96/C09.96). He received the Katharine and Bryant Mather Award in 2007 and C09 awards of appreciation in 2007 and 2008. In addition to C09, he also works on Committees C01 on Cement and E36 on Laboratory and Inspection Agency Accreditation. He served on the ASTM board of directors from 2001 to 2008 and was chairman of the board in 2006.

Fiorato holds a B.S. in civil engineering from Drexel University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Illinois. He is a licensed structural engineer in Illinois and a professional engineer in Arizona, Michigan and Ohio. His technical activities interface engineering properties and durability of concrete with structural design, construction and performance characteristics. He has authored more than 60 publications on cement and concrete technology.

Before his retirement in 2007, Fiorato served as president and chief executive officer of CTLGroup, Skokie, Ill., a firm that provides engineering, scientific and testing services to the construction and related industries. As part of his consulting practice, he assists clients in understanding and resolving issues with building code requirements and with materials and testing standards.

In addition to his work with ASTM International, Fiorato is a fellow and past president of the American Concrete Institute. He currently serves on ACI's financial advisory committee, ACI Committee 318 Structural Concrete Building Code, and the board advisory committee on ISO Technical Committee 71 on Concrete, Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete. He was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2008.
