ASTM presents Award of Merit to Donivan Porterfield.

December 12, 2013 - ASTM International Committee D19 on Water has recognized Donivan Porterfield, an analytical chemistry and radiochemical measurements scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, with the Award of Merit. Porterfield is membership secretary of both D19 and Committee C26 on Nuclear Fuel Cycle, where he also chairs Subcommittee C26.01 on Editorial and Terminology. A member of ASTM International since 1996, Porterfield has also received C26 Harlan J. Anderson Award and D19 Max Hecht Award.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., —ASTM InternationalCommittee D19 on Water has recognized Donivan Porterfield, an analytical chemistry and radiochemical measurements scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, N.M., with the Award of Merit. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for distinguished serviceand outstanding participation in ASTM technical committeeactivities. 

Porterfield is membership secretary of both D19 and Committee C26 on Nuclear Fuel Cycle, where he also chairs Subcommittee C26.01 on Editorial and Terminology. He has received several awards for his contributions, including the C26 Harlan J. Anderson Award and the D19 Max Hecht Award, the highest award recognition from those respective committees. A member of ASTM International since 1996, Porterfield also serves on Committees D22 on Air Quality, D34 on Waste Management, E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications and E54 on Homeland Security Applications.

An expert in the nuclear energy field and the water industry, Porterfield joined Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1993 and assumed his technical role in the actinide analytical chemistry group in 2000. Prior to that he was a scientist at Radian Corp. in Austin, Texas.

Porterfield is a member of the American Chemical Society in addition to ASTM International. He holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington.
