ASTM honors Deanne Emory with merit award for standards work.

June 9, 2009 - Deanne Emory, President and CEO of Miller and Weber, Inc., has received Award of Merit, and title of fellow, from ASTM International Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement. Currently serving 3-yr term on ASTM Committee on Technical Committee Operations (COTCO), Emory is recognized for effective leadership in work of Committee E20, for service as chair of Subcommittee E20.05 on Liquid-in-Glass Thermometers, and as secretary of E20.04 on Thermocouples.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 3 June 2009 - Deanne Emory, president and CEO of Miller & Weber Inc., Ridgewood, N.Y., has received the Award of Merit from ASTM International Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.

Emory, who joined ASTM International in 2000, was recognized for her effective and continuing leadership in the work of Committee E20 and in appreciation of her outstanding service as chair of Subcommittee E20.05 on Liquid-in-Glass Thermometers and as secretary of E20.04 on Thermocouples. In addition to E20, Emory is a member at large on Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants and also participates on Committees D04 on Road and Paving Materials, D18 on Soil and Rock and E36 on Laboratory and Inspection Agency Accreditation. She is currently serving a three-year term on the ASTM Committee on Technical Committee Operations (COTCO).

After earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, Va., Emory began her career as a laboratory chemist at the American Standards Testing Bureau, New York, N.Y. In 1983, she joined the staff at Miller & Weber, where she worked in positions of increasing responsibility before being named president and chief executive officer in 2003.

Outside ASTM International, Emory serves on the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board/ACLASS Accreditation Council and she is a member of the American Society for Quality, the American Scientific Glassblowers Society and Iota Sigma Pi - the National Honor Society of Women in Chemistry.
