ASTM Workshop on Corrosion Mitigation and High Strength Steel in Concrete Structures

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 26 February 2009 - A workshop on Corrosion Mitigation and High Strength Steel in Concrete Structures will be held Monday, May 18, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the May 18-21 standards development meetings of the committee.

The workshop will address corrosion mitigation and high strength steel, allowing the attendees to learn of the continuing research in these areas and of the future development of revised and new standards for corrosion-resistant and high strength steel reinforcement. During the workshop, advantages and limitations of several reinforcing materials (i.e., carbon steel, coated steel, alloyed steel and stainless steels) will be presented. Opportunities for research and development of advanced corrosion mitigation techniques will be discussed.

Attendees will learn of the newest developments in the area of high strength steel reinforcement. In addition, the workshop will include an overview by Dr. Paul Zia on "Design Guidelines of High Strength Steel Reinforced Concrete." This workshop will hope to identify what research and work is continuing in the areas of corrosion mitigation and high strength steel reinforcement.

There is no fee to attend this workshop. Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes May 13. For more information, visit the ASTM Web site at http://www.astm.org/MEETINGS/COMMIT/A01work0509.htm.

Committee A01 is one of 140 ASTM technical standards-writing committees. Established in 1898, ASTM International is one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world. ASTM International meets the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles for the development of international standards: coherence, consensus, development dimension, effectiveness, impartiality, openness, relevance and transparency. ASTM standards are accepted and used in research and development, product testing, quality systems and commercial transactions around the globe.
