Scheduled for June 26, workshop on Transitioning from Mercury Thermometers to Alternative Thermometers will be held at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. Over last 6 years, NIST has actively participated in national and international phase-out efforts to identify alternative thermometers for broad range of measurement applications. NIST will continue to provide technical and scientific support to find suitable alternative thermometers that meet measurement needs.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -A workshop on Transitioning from Mercury Thermometers to Alternative Thermometers will be held June 26 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square in San Francisco, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E20 on Temperature Measurement, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee. Over the last six years, NIST has actively participated in several national and international phase-out efforts to identify alternative thermometers for a broad range of measurement applications. The use of mercury thermometers has been virtually eliminated in routine hospital use, but a wide variety of regulations and test methods in the petroleum, concrete, pharmaceutical and other industries continue to specify mercury-in-glass thermometers. NIST will continue to support our stakeholders by providing technical and scientific support to find suitable alternative thermometers that meet their measurement needs. Several U.S. government, state agencies and international organizations are driving the removal of mercury thermometers as a means to reduce mercury in the environment. Online registration is now open and closes June 20. There is no fee to attend the workshop for ASTM members, presenters and students.
