July 16, 2010 - After calculation method for determining Crack Tip-Opening Displacement fracture toughness was revised in ASTM E1290 and ASTM E1820, there has been much discussion on significance that revision has had on results. Objective of ASTM International workshop on Critical Evaluation of Calculation Methods for CTOD is to discuss differences that have been observed in measured CTOD by these 2 methods, and implications of these differences to application of CTOD in industry.

Press release date: July 12, 2010

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.,-An ASTM International workshop on Critical Evaluation of Calculation Methods for Crack Tip-Opening Displacement (CTOD) will be held on Nov. 18, 2010, at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the Nov. 17-19 standards development meetings of the committee.

After the calculation method for determining CTOD fracture toughness was revised in ASTM E1290, Standard Test Method for Crack-Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Fracture Toughness Measurement, and ASTM E1820, Standard Test Method for Measurement of Fracture Toughness, there has been much discussion on the significance that this revision has had on the results. The objective of this workshop is to discuss the differences that have been observed in measured CTOD by these two methods, and the implications of these differences to the application of CTOD in industry.

This workshop should be of particular interest to engineers working in any industry where CTOD is used for procurement, qualification testing, or fitness-for-service assessment of materials and structures.

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes Nov. 10. The fee for ASTM members and non-members is $50 USD for online registration and $75 USD for on-site registration. The fee is waived for presenters and students with a valid I.D.
