W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - ASTM International is offering a new workshop to teach operators how to use ASTM D3241, Standard Test Method for Thermal Oxidation Stability of Aviation Turbine Fuels. The results of the test specified in ASTM D3241 are indicative of jet fuel performance in the gas turbine engines as it relates to assessing the levels of deposits from the fuel contact with heated surfaces. These ratings are based on the ability of the operator to judge the deposits on test coupons (heater tubes) to a color standard (Adjunct No. ADJD3241). This workshop will give the participants valuable hands-on experience and needed feedback from the workshop leader. This new training course will help explain the significance of ASTM D3241; help users understand the test method (with focus on critical operating characteristics) and the standard heater section of the instrument; perform hands-on rating of D3241 heater tubes using light boxes; and interact with other participants in the workshop to better understand the rating process. This workshop is intended for:
o Laboratory personnel that perform ASTM D3241;
o Laboratory managers that are responsible for test results from this test method;
o Regulatory personnel that need an understanding of the significance of the test results of the test method; and
o New engineers that participate in the manufacture of aviation turbine fuel. This workshop will be offered six times during 2011:
o April 26-27, Houston, Texas;
o May 3-4, Los Angeles, Calif.;
o May 17-18, Seattle, Wash.;
o Sept. 20-21, Chicago, Ill.;
o Oct. 4-5, ASTM headquarters, West Conshohocken, Pa.; and
o Oct. 25-26, Miami, Fla. The cost to attend the workshop is $895 USD and includes a copy of ASTM D3241 and course notes.
