ASTM International Training Course to Focus on Marine Fuels



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., November 17, 2009 - "Marine Fuels: Specifications, Testing, Purchase and Use," a three-day technical and professional training course sponsored by ASTM International, focuses on how the properties of marine fuels affect fuel handling, combustion and cost. The course will be held May 11-13, 2010, in Miami, Fla., and Oct. 26-28, 2010, in Stamford, Conn.

Topics include methods of manufacture and blending of various grades; effects of crude source and manufacturing on fuel properties; commercial practices in purchase and delivery; standard specifications used in purchasing; storage, handling and pre-treatment equipment and practices; and operation and functioning of boilers and engines that operate on marine fuel. The course will feature an inspection tour of a marine-fuel laboratory.

The course is intended for laboratory supervisors, shipping company employees and anyone dealing with the sale, purchase, trade, or use of marine fuels who need to obtain a detailed understanding of fuel quality requirements and why they are necessary for good handling and combustion performance.
