Highlights Regulatory, Technology and Performance Testing

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 6 February 2009-A Technical Seminar on Antifouling Paint Highlights: Regulatory, Technology, and Performance Testing, will be held June 23, 2009, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Va. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications, the seminar will be held in conjunction with the June 21-23 standards development meetings of the committee.

The technical seminar will consist of five presentations all focused on marine coatings. A regulatory update will cover biocide, coating registration and environmental inputs. A separate presentation will be on the quantification of biocide release rate, with a specific emphasis on harbor loading. In addition, a group of three talks will focus on antifouling coating performance assessment and recent developments in the marine industry, including perspective from the U.S. Navy. Attendees from ship owners, ship operators, science and technology, test and evaluation, shoreside maintenance, hull husbandry, ship hydrodynamics and local U.S. Navy regulatory communities are all welcome.

o Dr. Alistair Finnie - "Quantifying Biocide Release Rate from Antifouling Coatings"
o Dr. Eric Holm - "Antifouling Coatings Performance Evaluation at Diverse Exposure Sites"
o Dr. Geoff Swain - "Approaches to Evaluating Antifouling Coatings Efficacy"
o Mr. Mark W. Ingle "Antifouling Coatings - U.S. Navy Approaches and Recent Focus"
