ASTM International Symposium on Static and Dynamic Spinal Implants to Be Held in November

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -ASTM International is sponsoring a symposium, Static and Dynamic Spinal Implants: Are We Evaluating Them Appropriately?, to be held Nov. 16, 2010, at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. Sponsored by ASTM Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices, the symposium is being held in conjunction with the Nov. 16-19 standards development meetings of the committee.

The objective of this symposium is to provide a scientific forum to evaluate existing standard test methods for spinal implants, how they relate to recent clinical experience and failure modes, and discuss what new directions and standards are needed to address clinical failures through pre-clinical testing.

Participants will learn how current standards are succeeding in predicting clinical failure modes, where current standards are lacking and how they should be changed, and what new test methods are needed. This one-day program will feature more than 30 peer-reviewed oral presentations and posters in four subject areas: interbody fusion devices, disc and nucleus devices, longitudinal systems and in vitro testing methods.

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the symposium and will close Nov. 10. The fee for ASTM members and session chairs is $220 USD for online registration and $245 USD for on-site registration. The fee for non-ASTM members is $270 USD online and $295 on site. The fee is waived for presenters and students with a valid I.D. For more information, visit http://www.astm.org/F04symp1110.htm.
