ASTM Symposium looks at dynamic testing of soil and rock.

April 10, 2012 - Dynamic Testing of Soil and Rock: Field and Laboratory will be held June 28-29 in San Diego, CA. Symposium will consist of presentations dealing with laboratory testing using diverse types of equipment on range of materials. Also, there will be presentations on field tests using down hole seismic, lightweight deflectometer. Interpretation of the data will be discussed, and comparisons will be made to laboratory test results.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-A symposium on Dynamic Testing of Soil and Rock: Field and Laboratory, will be held June 28-29 at the Sheraton San Diego in San Diego, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium will consist of a number of presentations dealing with laboratory testing using the following equipment: Bender Elements, Resonant Column Torsional Shear, Cyclic Direct Simple Shear, Piezoelectric Crystals and Cyclic Triaxial. This testing was performed on a variety of materials: marine sediments, sand, gravel, rock, cemented sand, polymer, fly ash, unsaturated materials and electro-osmosis chemically treated clay.

In addition there will be presentations on field tests using down hole seismic, lightweight deflectometer. The interpretation of the data will be discussed and comparisons will be made to laboratory test results.

Online registration is now open and closes June 20. The fees to attend this symposium are:

  • Non-ASTM Members - $295 USD online registration; $320 USD onsite registration
  • Presenters/Session Chairs - $220 USD online registration; $240 USD onsite registration
