March 13, 2009 - Scheduled for May 21-22, 8th International Symposium on Bearing Steel Technologies will be divided into 6 sessions. They include material and heat treatment design considerations, microstructure behavior in rolling contact, rolling contact materials response analysis and RCF testing, corrosion resistant steel and hydrogen effects in bearing steels, micro cleanliness quality assurance in bearing steels, and bearing steel steelmaking and semi-finished product manufacturing technologies.

Developments in Rolling Bearing Steels and Testing

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., 10 March 2009-The Eighth International Symposium on Bearing Steel Technologies: Developments in Rolling Bearing Steels and Testing, will be held May 21-22, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the May 18-21 standards development meetings of the committee.

The program for the symposium is one of the best collections of papers on the subject of bearing steel technologies. Representatives of many of the top bearing steel steelmakers, rolling bearing producers, and research and development institutes will present papers. The presenters originate from eight countries, seven bearing steelmakers, six rolling bearing producers and seven research and development institutes. The program is divided into the following six sessions over two full days:

Session 1: Material and Heat Treatment Design Considerations, Including Fracture Mechanics and Structural Strength, for Rolling Bearings

Session 2: Microstructure Behavior in Rolling Contact

Session 3: Rolling Contact Materials Response Analysis and RCF Testing

Session 4: Corrosion Resistant Steel and Hydrogen Effects in Bearing Steels

Session 5: Micro Cleanliness Quality Assurance in Bearing Steels

Session 6: Bearing Steel Steelmaking and Semi-Finished Product Manufacturing Technologies

The papers from the steelmaker and rolling bearing producers generally contain comprehensive bearing steel and processing quality information for use in steel and rolling bearing quality assurance, and the papers from the research and development institutes contain details of new, related bearing steel technologies. The information in the symposium papers will be novel enough to benefit experienced/specialist bearing steel technologists and wide-ranging enough to benefit newcomers. Supply chain practitioners will have the opportunity to learn about new developments in the supply market and also about added value opportunities from various steelmakers, rolling bearing producers, and research and development service providers.

Online registration is now open and closes May 13. The fee to attend the workshop for ASTM members, is $300 for online registration and $325 for on-site registration. The fee for non-ASTM members is $400 online and $425 on site. The fee is waived for presenters, session chairs and students with a valid I.D.
