Press release date: January 1, 2008

All interested parties are invited to join in the activities of Subcommittee C09.49 on Pervious Concrete as it develops its first proposed standard, WK16885, Test Method for Density and Void Content of Pervious Concrete. The subcommittee is under the jurisdiction of Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates.

"WK16885 and forthcoming standards for pervious concrete arose from the need to provide specifiers and owners with test methods catered to pervious concrete," says Michael Davy, WK16885 task group leader and Technical Services Representative, Cocoa District, CEMEX. "Due to the porous nature of the material, existing test methods for plain fresh concrete may not apply. The proposed unit weight test method can be used as a means of verifying the producer's mixture proportions on a particular project at the job site."

Davy says that WK16885 will be used to verify that the fresh pervious concrete being delivered represents the producer's mix design for a given project. The proposed standard will also be used by engineers, test laboratories and producers investigating different mixture proportions.

For membership or meeting information, contact Scott Orthey, Technical Committee Operations, ASTM International (phone: 610/832-9730; sorthey@astm.org).
