ASTM International Steel Committee Presents Most Prestigious Award to Dr. William Warke
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., —Willam Warke, Ph.D., of Palos Hills, Ill., has received the Founding Committee Award from ASTM International Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys. Warke received the award, Committee A01’s most prestigious, in recognition of his high level of leadership and exemplary contributions to the development of ASTM steel standards.
A member of ASTM International since 1966, Warke is an ASTM fellow and Award of Merit recipient. He served as A01 secretary for six years, is a past chairman of the A01.91 Editorial Subcommittee and currently serves on multiple subcommittees. He is also a member of Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture.
Warke was a research associate at Amoco Corp., Naperville, Ill., for nearly 20 years before retiring in 1997. In that role, he provided metallurgical engineering support to Amoco facilities worldwide, including oil fields, refineries and chemical plants. He was an active participant in the development of fitness-for-purpose technology for the oil industry through participation in Materials Property Council and American Petroleum Institute committees and represented Amoco on ASTM Committee A01. Prior to Amoco he was an associate professor at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Ill.
Outside ASTM International, Warke is a member of ASM International (formerly the American Society for Metals) and The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society. He received his Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and holds a master’s in metallurgical engineering from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.
