ASTM International Roofing Committee Recognizes Thomas L. Smith with Carl G. Cash Award



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., —Thomas L. Smith, president of TLSmith Consulting Inc. in Rockton, Ill., has received the Carl G. Cash Award from ASTM International Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing. The Cash Award recognizes outstanding contributions to building envelope technology through research conducted in either the laboratory or field.



A member of ASTM International since 1988, Smith serves on multiple D08 subcommittees and also works on Committee C17 on Fiber-Reinforced Cement Products.



TLSmith Consulting specializes in architectural technology and research with an emphasis on roof systems. Prior to establishing his consulting business in 1998, Smith was research director at the National Roofing Contractors Association in Rosemont, Ill., and an associate at Maynard and Partch Architects in Anchorage, Alaska. An internationally recognized expert in roofing technology, Smith is a licensed architect and registered roof consultant. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark.



Outside ASTM International, Smith is a fellow of the Structural Engineering Institute and a member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Association for Wind Engineering, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Construction Specifications Institute, the National Roofing Contractors Association and the Roof Consultants Institute. He has authored more than 100 articles, papers and various technical publications in his field.
