ASTM International Workshop Will Provide Introduction to Product Category Rules and Environmental Product Declarations

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., —The ASTM workshop, An Introduction to Product Category Rules (PCR), Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Other Aspects of Sustainable Process and Resilient Materials, will be held June 9 at the JW Marriott Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Ind. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the committee’s standards development meetings.

The increased marketplace demand for more resilient structures with products produced from sustainable processes has accelerated the need to verify those owner requirements and community goals. To respond to these demands, the marketplace needs a standard method of being able to compare products and production processes. A Product Category Rule (PCR) in combination with an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is rapidly becoming the means to classify individual products as well as serve as a comparison between products.

This workshop will focus on giving the basics of these documents and how they relate to individual raw materials as well as ready-mix concrete. ASTM has recently announced that is has become a Program Operator and in the business of verifying EPD's. This will also be explained as well as how PCR's, EPD's fit into the overall strategic picture for ASTM going forward.

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes June 5.  There is no attendance fee for ASTM members, presenters and students with a valid ID. The attendance fee for non-ASTM members is $50 USD online and $75 USD onsite.
