Original Press Release:

ASTM International Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery Systems Will Be Held in October

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., —The 34th Symposium on Pesticide Formulation and Delivery Systems: Translating Basic Science into Products, will be held Oct. 22-24, 2013, at the Hyatt Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E35 on Pesticides, Antimicrobials and Alternative Control Agents, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the standards development meetings of the committee.

The symposium title is based on the concept that the foundation of innovative products comes from basic science or ideas. A great example is the discovery of Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt, used as a toxin for insects, which lead to a robust biological control industry as well as genetically engineered crops. Another example is the basic research into the toxicity of many solvent systems that resulted in increased efficacy as well as safer agricultural practices. The symposium has several purposes:

It provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of new pesticide, adjuvant, and related agrichemical formulations.

It provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of chemistry and physical properties of materials in formulations.

It provides a forum for new ideas regarding delivery systems.

New standard test methods may be presented as well as the science behind those standards.

It provides a venue for networking among participants.

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the symposium and closes Oct. 16. The attendance fee for ASTM members is $245 USD online and $270 USD onsite; the fee for non-members is $270 USD online and $295 onsite. There is no fee for presenters, session chairs and students.

Visit www.astm.org/34thPesticide2013 for registration and additional information. A technical program (presentation times, paper titles, and presenters' names) will be posted on the ASTM website by late August.

Additional technical information is available from symposium chairman Yasmith Bernal, Oil-Dri Corp. of America, Vernon Hills, Ill. (phone: 847- 634-3090; yasmith.bernal@oildri.com).
