ASTM International Symposium on Geopolymer Binder Systems Will Be Held in June
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -A symposium on Geopolymer Binder Systems will be held June 26-27 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina in San Diego, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committees C01 on Cement and C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committees.
With increasing awareness of the damaging effects of CO2 emissions has come increasing pressure on the industry to develop more sustainable binders for concrete. New binders such as geopolymers and related alkali-activated aluminosilicates are being increasingly researched, are being marketed as specialty products, and are being explored for use in structural concrete. This symposium is intended to provide an opportunity for ASTM to consider such binders and whether the existing cement standards provide, on the one hand, an effective framework for further exploration of new sustainable binders and, on the other hand, reliable protection for users of these materials. Papers will be presented on the following topics:
o Manufacturing of geopolymers and related alkali-activated aluminosilicate binders;
o Alkali activation of fly ash and other waste materials;
o Assessment of materials for use in geopolymers;
o Performance of geopolymers and related binders; and
o Standards for geopolymers and related binders.
Online registration is now open and closes June 20. There is no fee to attend the workshop for ASTM members, presenters and students. The fee for non-members is $50 USD for online registration and $75 USD for onsite registration.
