ASTM International Symposium Will Cover Recycled Materials for Sustainable Geotechnical Construction



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - An International Symposium on Testing and Specification of Recycled Materials for Sustainable Geotechnical Construction will be held Feb. 2-4, 2011, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Md. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the Jan. 30-Feb. 4 standards development meetings of the committee.

This symposium will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on current research nationally and internationally on the use of industrial byproducts and other recycled materials in geotechnical construction. A key objective is to identify new opportunities for standards and specifications that will facilitate more widespread and common use of industrial byproducts and other recycled materials in geotechnical construction. Both geoenvironmental and geomechanical issues will be covered as well as life cycle assessment, impacts on greenhouse gas emissions, and energy consumption.

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the symposium and will close Jan. 26. The fee for ASTM members, presenters and session chairs is $245 USD for online registration and $270 USD for on-site registration.
