W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., January 29, 2010-Jeff Goldfinger, a director of business development at L-3 Communications Corp., has been named chairman of ASTM International Committee F38 on Unmanned Aircraft Systems. The committee, with a membership of approximately 175, develops standards related to design, performance, quality acceptance tests and safety monitoring for unmanned aircraft systems.

An ASTM member since 2003, Goldfinger has promoted the global recognition of F38 standards to regulators, governments and industry through presentations at various UAS forums. He has also worked with the Department of Defense and product/service providers for the acceptance of ASTM standards. Goldfinger, who assumed his role at L-3 Communications in 2006, spent 20 years as a Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy, where he was a qualified Pioneer UAV internal pilot, accumulating more than 1,500 flight hours in various carrier-based tactical aircraft. Since his retirement from the Navy in 2002, he has provided consulting and flight operation services to both U.S. government and industry consumers, with a focus on manned and unmanned flight operations for military and homeland security operations.

A graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill., where he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science, Goldfinger is also a member of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).

ASTM International is one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world. ASTM International meets the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles for the development of international standards: coherence, consensus, development dimension, effectiveness, impartiality, openness, relevance and transparency. ASTM standards are accepted and used in research and development, product testing, quality systems and commercial transactions.
