ASTM International Committee on Sports Equipment and Facilities Presents Award of Merit to Mark Granger



W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Mark S. Granger, a senior partner at Morrison Mahoney LLP in Boston, Mass., has received the ASTM International Award of Merit and title of fellow from Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities. The Award of Merit is ASTM's highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to ASTM standards activities.

Granger, who joined ASTM International in 1994, works on several F08 subcommittees and has served as chairman of Subcommittee F08.15 on Ice Hockey since 2005. He has been a large contributor to standards for helmets and eye and face protective equipment for hockey players, and has organized a series of mock trials highlighting issues related to the use of ASTM standards in litigation and the consequences for standards development as a continuing education event for members. Granger, who has received the F08 Award of Appreciation twice, is also a member of Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management and Corrective Action.

A graduate of Boston University School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1976, Granger joined Morrison Mahoney LLP in 1982 as an associate attorney. He became partner in 1984 and senior partner in 1998. In his 30 years with the firm, he has provided litigation and advised clients in the areas of product liability, toxic tort, environmental defense and regulatory compliance. He has also worked with companies in dealing with regulatory matters before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and various other state and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Labor and Industries.

Granger is a member of the American Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Environmental Law Institute, Federal Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Product Liability Advisory Council and the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, where he is chairman of the Legal Task Force. He also serves as counsel to the Protective Headgear Manufacturers Association and the Hockey Equipment Certification Council Inc.

Granger recently relocated his law practice to Schroon Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, where he has enjoyed vacationing with his family since 1952.
