ASTM International Engine Coolants Committee Honors Fred Alverson with Award of Merit
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.—Fred C. Alverson, principal engineer at Shell Global Solutions, Houston, Texas, has received the ASTM International Award of Merit for his contributions to Committee D15 on Engine Coolants and Related Fluids. The Award of Merit and its accompanying title of fellow is ASTM’s highest organizational recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM technical committee activities.Â
Alverson serves as D15 recording secretary and also chairs Subcommittee D15.21 on Extended Life Coolants. He has been an instrumental part in the development of standards to promote knowledge and stimulate research in the engine coolants field since he joined the committee in 2002. He works on several D15 subcommittees and received the Daniel H. Green Award for outstanding D15 work in 2010.
A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University,Blacksburg, Va., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Alverson specializes in engine coolant technology, testing and technical support. Prior to joining Shell in 2002, he was a technologist at Equilon Enterprises, Houston, Texas, and a project engineer/technologist at Texaco Inc., Port Arthur, Texas, where he conducted product development and provided technical support on industrial, automotive and transportation lubricants, cutting oils and metalworking fluids.
Outside ASTM International, Alverson is a member of SAE International.
