Original Press Release:

Eleventh International ASTM/ESIS Symposium on Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics To Be Held in May

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - The Eleventh International ASTM/ESIS Symposium on Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics will be held May 18-20 at the Marriott Anaheim in Anaheim, Calif. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the May standards development meetings of the committee.

This symposium is intended to provide a forum to promote discourse and disseminate state-of-the-art advances in analysis methodologies and testing techniques in the areas of fatigue and fracture mechanics. Applications of emerging analytical tools and novel experimental techniques to assess the durability of engineering structures, components and devices and to identify the associated damage mechanisms in materials are of interest, as are emerging multi-scale and multi-physics approaches for predicting the fatigue and fracture response of materials and structures.

A particular focus area for this symposium will be fatigue crack growth behaviors. Emphasis in this focus area will be placed on papers that address crack closure effects, adjusted compliance ratio method as an alternate closure assessment methodology, residual stress effects and crack growth in the near-threshold regime.

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes May 11. The fees to attend the workshop are as follows: ASTM members, presenters and session chairs: $465 USD for online registration and $490 USD for onsite registration; non-ASTM members: $490 USD for online registration and $515 USD for onsite registration. There is no fee for students with a valid ID.

ASTM International is one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world. ASTM International meets the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles for the development of international standards: coherence, consensus, development dimension, effectiveness, impartiality, openness, relevance and transparency. ASTM standards are accepted and used in research and development, product testing, quality systems and commercial transactions.
