W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., -Anne Goldman, vice president of consumer research at ACCE International in Mississauga, Ontario, has received the David R. Peryam Award from ASTM International Committee E18 on Sensory Evaluation of Materials and Products. The Peryam Award recognizes outstanding professionals in the applied sensory science field.

A member of ASTM International since 1987, Goldman served a term as E18 chairman from 2002-2004 and currently chairs E18.91, Standing Committee on Subcommittees and Task Groups. She has made contributions to important E18 standards as well as to Manual 5, International Consumer Product Testing Across Cultures and Countries. Goldman has received the E18 Award of Appreciation twice, and was honored with the ASTM Award of Merit and title of fellow in 2005.

As vice president of consumer research at ACCE International, Goldman directs consumer sensory research for clients in consumer packaged goods industries, which has resulted in the development and launch of numerous successful new products and ensured the continued success of existing brands. She is an international leader in the integration of consumer sensory science to the product development process, working with cross-functional business teams.

Goldman holds a B.Sc. in household science from Queen Elizabeth College, University of London, England, and a M.Sc. in food science from the University of Leeds, England. Prior to joining ACCE International in 1986, her professional career included positions in the food industry as well as research and academic institutes on three continents.

Outside ASTM International, Goldman is a past president of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, past secretary of the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology, a board member of the European Sensory Network, and a governing council member of the International Union of Food Science and Technology. She is a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists and the Institute of Food Science and Technology (U.K.), a recently elected fellow of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology, and a certified marketing research professional of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association. She has authored multiple publications related to food science and sensory consumer science research and is a regular presenter at several industry conferences, including the Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium. ASTM International is one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world. ASTM International meets the World Trade Organization (WTO) principles for the development of international standards: coherence, consensus, development dimension, effectiveness, impartiality, openness, relevance and transparency.
