ASTM Aerospace/Aircraft Committee names Babcock as chairman.

March 13, 2012 - ASTM International Committee F07 on Aerospace and Aircraft elected Ed Babcock, engineer and scientist at Boeing Corporation in Mesa, AZ, as chairman for 2-year term. In addition to having been ASTM International member since 2002 and serving as secretary of Subcommittee F07.04 on Hydrogen Embrittlement, Babcock has 17+ years of experience working on environmental assurance issues in materials and processes technologies for Boeing Mesa.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.-ASTM International Committee F07 on Aerospace and Aircraft has elected Ed Babcock, engineer and scientist at the Boeing Co. in Mesa, Ariz., as chairman for a two-year term. Committee F07 includes more than 100 members who oversee 47 standard practices and test methods for aerospace, aircraft and allied industry materials.

A member of ASTM International since 2002, Babcock also serves as secretary of Subcommittee F07.04 on Hydrogen Embrittlement. He received an Award of Appreciation from F07 in 2005.

Babcock has more than 17 years of experience working on environmental assurance issues in materials and processes technologies for Boeing Mesa. He facilitated the Boeing Hydrogen Embrittlement Technology Focus Session team; lead the Boeing Cadmium and Hard Chrome Elimination Natural Working Group; acted as the Decontamination Team lead for the Boeing Chemical and Biological Warfare (CBW) IPT; and is the Boeing representative on the steering committee for a joint U.S./Canada hydrogen embrittlement research project being led by the IBECA Technologies Corp in conjunction with McGill University.

A graduate of Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz., where he earned a bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering, Babcock has been with Boeing since 1994. Prior to that he was a project engineer at ACME Electric in Tempe, Ariz.
