2009 ASHRAE Press Breakfast

McCormick Place, Room S502b

Monday, January 26

8-9 a.m.

ASHRAE has a longstanding history as a leader in energy efficiency issues. With the establishment this year of its Building Energy Labeling committee, ASHRAE is making strides in the critical area of energy performance measurement in buildings.

This program will aim to provide motivation for reducing energy use in commercial buildings by expressing the energy performance of buildings in a tangible way. ASHRAE believes the public disclosure of the energy's design and operation energy efficiency will lead building owners to strongly consider cost-effective energy efficiency improvements at the time of design and construction and in any subsequent renovations, thereby positively changing the marketplace.

This year's ASHRAE Press Breakfast addresses ASHRAE's Building Energy Labeling program and provides an update on the committee's work toward this goal as well as the operation of similar programs in the European Union . The topics and speakers participating in this year's briefing are:

Bill Harrison, ASHRAE president, to give opening remarks

Kent Peterson, P.E., ASHRAE presidential member, discusses the establishment of the Building Energy Labeling committee and his reasons for making this an ASHRAE goal.

Ron Jarnagin, chair of the Building Energy Labeling Ad Hoc committee, discusses the current work and goals of the committee.

Tim Dwyer, Director at Large on the ASHRAE Board of Directors, discusses the European perspective and the history of similar programs there.
