APICS Announces 2008 Voluntary Service Award Recipients

Joni White of the Washington, D.C., Chapter, Mandy Price of Carroll College in Appleton, Wisconsin, and Karen Eboch of Bowling Green State University Recognized for Their Efforts

Chicago (September 18, 2008) APICS The Association for Operations Management today announced the winners of the 2008 APICS Voluntary Service Awards that are given to individuals who have given years of dedicated service to APICS, encouraging APICS and its members to achieve their goals and commitment to lifelong learning. Winners were recognized at the 2008 APICS International Conference and Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri.

This year's service awards were divided into three categories: The Voluntary Service Award, the Student Voluntary Service Award and the Student Chapter Mentor Award.

The 2008 APICS Voluntary Service Award is presented annually to an APICS member who has demonstrated superior leadership achievements and contributions to the association in areas that include APICS chapter committees and certification programs. This year's recipient, Joni White of the DC Metro Chapter, was recognized for her dedication to APICS' vision, mission, and body of knowledge.

APICS Executive Director Abe Eshkenazi, CSCP, CPA, CAE, noted Joni's dedication in presenting the award. "Joni has dedicated a lifetime of learning as an operations practitioner and more than a decade to selflessly teaching what she has learned. As an instructor, she has guided more than a thousand APICS students through CSCP, CIRM, and CPIM certifications. And since becoming a member of the DC Metro Board in 1992, she has held every position on the board, including president...twice! Joni's example perfectly captures the essence of the APICS operations professional."

The 2008 Student Voluntary Service Award is presented annually to a student member who makes an outstanding contribution to APICS. This year's recipient, Mandy Price of Carroll College in Appleton, Wisconsin, has proven herself to be a tireless advocate for student members and a true campus leader. "As treasurer of her student chapter for four consecutive semesters, she managed the finances of the chapter and also took charge of heading the budget requests for the group from the student senate," said Abe Eshkenazi. "As a chapter officer, she not only helped to increase student membership by promoting APICS on campus, but also represented the chapter at the APICS parent chapter meetings in Milwaukee, and also attended the 2006 and 2007 International Conferences as a student scholar. Mandy is actively involved in many extracurricular activities and organizations on campus and has consistently demonstrated her leadership abilities."

The 2008 Student Chapter Mentor Award is presented annually to an individual who supports the student chapter and works to develop the professionals of the future. This year's recipient, Karen Eboch of Bowling Green State University, has been a steadfast supporter of her student chapter. "To all who know her, Karen has been described as caring, supportive, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and versatile. She has been faculty advisor to the APICS student chapter since the fall of 2004, and the chapter has thrived under her leadership and guidance," said Abe Eshkenazi. "Since 2005, she has been a member of the APICS International Conference Scholars Committee, and as a member of the APICS Student Membership Development Committee, she has worked to develop programs to encourage student involvement in APICS as well as ways to retain students as APICS professionals after graduation."
