Attendees of Course No. 208 will learn about accreditation, membership, voting requirements, and rules for developing positions by exploring processes and operating procedures of ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Groups to ISO. Course No. 627 introduces interested stakeholders to ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 - General requirements for bodies operating certification schemes for persons.

In a continuing effort to promote education in the standards and conformity assessment community, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that it will host several courses in December 2008.

"Both newcomers to the standards and conformity assessment community and industry members with years of experience will benefit from the information and guidance provided in these courses," said Stacy Leistner, ANSI director of communications and education. "We encourage all interested parties to attend."

The course schedule for December 2008 is as follows:

The American Way: The American National Standard (ANS) Development Process This ANSI course offers an excellent "nuts and bolts" preparation for those who are considering becoming ANSI-accredited standards developers. Course #287 will discuss the importance of U.S. voluntary consensus standards, the types of accreditation, all the stages in the standards development process, and how to make the most of participation in standards development.

Course #287 will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Eastern) in New York City.

The Operating Procedures of U.S. TAGs to ISO: Strengthening the U.S. Voice in International Standardization
On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, ANSI will lead a training course (#208) for U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Administrators. Attendees will learn about accreditation, membership, voting requirements and rules for developing positions by exploring the processes and operating procedures of ANSI-accredited U.S. TAGs to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This course will provide an understanding of the ISO standards development process with a focus on how to promote U.S. involvement-and the acceptance of U.S. positions-in an international standards committee.

The course will take place in New York City from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Eastern).

Personnel Certification Accreditation Workshop: Understanding the Requirements of ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024
ANSI will hold a two-day session (#627) on Wednesday and Thursday, December 3-4, 2008, that introduces interested stakeholders to the international standard ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024 - General requirements for bodies operating certification schemes for persons. Discussions will focus on building an understanding of the standard's requirements, its benefits, and why it has become the benchmark for personnel certification. The course is ideal for representatives of corporations, organizations, government agencies and others who either operate personnel certification programs or who wish to learn more about the ANSI accreditation process.

Course #627 will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern) on both days in Washington, DC.

ISO Secretariat Operations: Taking the Secret out of the Secretariat Insight and advice on successful ISO committee management will be the focus of Course #205. Attendees will build an understanding of ISO and the ISO/IEC Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1 standards development processes, alternative deliverables, and effective management techniques. The roles and responsibilities of all committee officers will be discussed, as well as the requirements for ISO committee meetings and helpful hints on preparation for and conduct at meetings. Additional discussion will cover special issues for Secretariats, including a review of new ISO electronic management tools.

This course will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Eastern) in New York City.
