The International Code Council® (ICC®) has partnered with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to distribute the recently released Spanish versions of the 2006 International Codes® in electronic format. These codes include the International Building, Fire, Residential, Energy Conservation, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Property Maintenance Codes. The popularity of the International Codes globally has provided the impetus for the Code Council to pursue development of these codes in multiple languages. In addition to interest outside the U.S., ICC has also experienced an increase in demand for the codes in Spanish from the Spanish-speaking community within the U.S.

"The Code Council is committed to partnering with others to provide the most current building safety solutions in as many different formats and languages as possible in order to serve the global community," declared International Code Council Business and Product Development Senior Vice President Mark Johnson. "The Code Council is pleased to partner with ANSI to make it easier for building professionals to have access to the Spanish Codes through the Institute's state of the art electronic delivery system."

"ANSI is pleased to partner with member organizations such as the ICC to make the documents that are needed by the building industry more widely accessible," stated George Gulla, ANSI's vice president of publications. "ICC's codes and standards are well-recognized and have an established user base in English-speaking economies; the new Spanish-language translation will help to facilitate their implementation in other markets."

Having the codes available electronically and in Spanish will not only save time in accessing them but will expand their usage and application as well, thereby enhancing the overall level of safety. The 2006 International Codes in Spanish can be obtained by visiting the ANSI eStandards Store at http://webstore.ansi.org/.

The International Code Council, a membership association dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties and states choose the International Codes, building safety codes developed by the International Code Council.

ANSI is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance U.S. global competitiveness and the American quality of life by promoting, facilitating, and safeguarding the integrity of the voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system. The Institute is the official U.S. representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and, via the U.S. National Committee, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC); ANSI is also a U.S. representative to the International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
