Press release date: August 15, 2008

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has announced a proposed revision to the procedures contained in Annex B: Draft American National Standards for trial use of the ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards. The proposal is open for public comment until September 15.

The ExSC recommends one of two options:

Annex B shall be deleted from the ANSI Essential Requirements, thus eliminating the Draft Standard for Trial Use (DSTU) option; or a revised Annex B shall replace the current provision.

Written comments on the proposed revision should be sent to psa@ansi.org no later than September 15, 2008.

The ExSC will review all timely public comments at its September 24, 2008, meeting. If the ExSC decides to eliminate Annex B or to accept the revision without substantive changes, then the decision will be passed to the ANSI National Policy Committee (NPC) for final approval. If the ExSC determines that further revisions are necessary, then another public comment period will be announced in ANSI Standards Action and on ANSI Online news.
