ANSI Releases Agenda for April 20 Joint Member Forum; Register Now for JMF, OMF, and CMF Meetings



The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has released a meeting agenda for the Joint Member Forum (JMF) meeting and luncheon taking place as part of the Institute's annual spring member meetings on April 20, 2011, in Arlington, VA. The event is open to all ANSI members.

This highly anticipated meeting will feature special guest speaker Deborah Wince-Smith, president and CEO of the Council on Competitiveness-a coalition dedicated to advancing American competitiveness and prosperity in the global economy. Ms. Wince-Smith will provide a keynote address on "21st Century Manufacturing for an Innovation Economy."

Ms. Wince-Smith is internationally renowned as a leading voice on competitiveness, innovation strategy, science and technology, and international economic policy. As president of the Council on Competitiveness, she spearheaded the groundbreaking 2004 National Innovation Initiative (NII), which played a pivotal role in shaping the America COMPETES Act, created state and regional innovation initiatives, and brought a global focus to innovation. She previously served as the nation's first assistant secretary of commerce for technology policy in the George H.W. Bush administration, and developed President Ronald Reagan's 1988 Competitiveness Initiative.

Additional JMF agenda items include the coordinated ANSI response to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) request for comment on federal involvement in standardization; a discussion of UL's Environment Program and the development of environmentally preferable product standards; an overview of the ANSI Committee on Education's (COE's) activities for 2011-2012; and an update on the Institute's website redesign.

Co-located Events
In addition to the ANSI member forums, the Institute will host meetings of the International Policy Committee (IPC) and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day (WSD) Planning Committee on Tuesday, April 19, 2011. These meetings are being co-located in the DC metro area to provide convenient access to all events. The IPC meeting will be held at ANSI's Headquarters office (1899 L Street, NW, 11th Floor, Washington, DC, 20036); the WSD Planning Committee meeting will be held at the office of the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Attendance at these events is limited to committee members only.
