ANSI Networking Breakfast and Workshop to Bring Together Generations of Standards Professionals

Educational Event Will Be Held in Conjunction with WSW 2012 in October

In an effort to foster networking and mentoring amongst American National Standards Institute (ANSI) members and the next generation of standards and conformity assessment professionals, ANSI is hosting a breakfast and workshop in Washington, DC, on October 12, 2012, as part of the World Standards Week (WSW) series of events. The ANSI Networking Breakfast and Student Workshop: Educating the Next Generation of Standards Professionals, sponsored by IEEE and INCITS, will offer a morning meet-and-greet for all WSW attendees, as well as an interactive exercise on standards development and negotiation for students, new professionals, and new faculty.

The event will commence with the free networking breakfast at 8 a.m., where veteran standards and conformance professionals can mingle with students and young professionals entering the field. Following breakfast, the invitation-only workshop will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a simulation exercise provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) entitled, Setting Standards: Exercise in Strategy and Cooperation in Standardization Process. The exercise will explore the analytical and practical skills needed to successfully engage in standards negotiations, and will highlight the political-economic stakes, strategies, and processes involved in standardization.

The ANSI Networking Breakfast and Student Workshop will be held Friday, October 12, at the Newseum in Washington, DC. The networking breakfast (8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.) is free and open to all WSW 2012 participants, including ANSI members and stakeholders from government, industry, business, consumer groups, and academia. Advance registration is required; click here to register (select "Networking Breakfast for Student Workshop"). Registration closes September 28, 2012.

The workshop (9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is open to invited attendees only, due to space limitations. To inquire about attending, please email Lisa Rajchel (lrajchel@ansi.org).

WSW, to be held October 9-12, 2012, is an annual event where members of the standards and conformity assessment community come together in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration.
