ANSI Issues Draft Agenda for April 25 Exploratory Meeting for an Energy Efficiency Standards Panel

Pre-registration Ends Wednesday, April 18

On April 25, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will host an exploratory meeting to examine the need for a potential ANSI Energy Efficiency Standards Panel, and to hear directly from stakeholders what shape such an activity should take. The purpose of the meeting is to gather input from stakeholders as to areas where an ANSI standards panel would be most beneficial in coordinating a U.S. approach to energy efficiency standardization activities.

In the first panel of the day, federal agency representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the U.S. Department of Defense will share their perspectives on energy efficiency priorities for the nation. The second panel will highlight several key initiatives currently underway to promote energy efficiency, with speakers representing the Institute for Market Transformation, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), the U.S. Council for Energy-Efficient Manufacturing (U.S. CEEM), and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Both panels will be followed by an open Q&A session.

The second half of the day will take the shape of a moderated, open discussion among participants to identify potential areas where standardization activities could help to advance a coordinated approach to energy efficiency initiatives.

"Energy efficiency is a cross-cutting issue that applies to all industry sectors, and I encourage all stakeholders to participate in the April 25 exploratory meeting," said S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO. "The Institute has a long and successful track record in bringing diverse stakeholders together in a neutral forum to develop consensus-based solutions for national and global priorities. This neutrality is especially key where significant cross-sectoral collaboration is required."

If formed, the anticipated role of the panel would be to determine a road ahead for advancing the nation's energy efficiency agenda.
