ANSI March Caucus to have guest speaker, Dr. Patrick Gallagher.

March 3, 2010 - ANSI Caucus Luncheon, to be held March 12, will feature guest speaker Patrick Gallagher, Ph.D., director of US Department of Commerce's NIST. Confirmed as fourteenth director of NIST on November 5 of 2009, Dr. Gallagher had served as deputy director since September 2008. Prior to that, he was director of NIST Center for Neutron Research. In 2000, Gallagher was NIST agency representative at NSTC, and he remains an active contributor to US policy for scientific user facilities.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that the next monthly ANSI Caucus Luncheon will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010. The meeting will feature guest speaker Patrick Gallagher, Ph.D., director of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

Dr. Gallagher was confirmed as the fourteenth director of NIST on November 5, 2009, and served as deputy director September 2008. Prior to that he was the director of the NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), a national user facility providing thermal and cold neutron measurement capabilities to the U.S. research community. In 2000, Dr. Gallagher was a NIST agency representative at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). He is an active contributor to the area of U.S. policy for scientific user facilities and was chair of the Interagency Working Group on neutron and light source facilities under the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

After receiving his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1991, Dr. Gallagher has pursued research interests including neutron and X-ray instrumentation and studies of soft condensed matter systems such as liquids, polymers, and gels.

The March Caucus is sponsored by ASTM International, an ANSI member and audited designator.

The Caucus will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, Zenger Room) in Washington, DC. The period from 11:45 to 12:15 will be for ANSI members only; after 12:15 all stakeholders are welcome. RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
