ANSI Invites Expert Participation in Strategy Meeting on Biotechnology Standardization

From agriculture and food science to genetics and health care, the biotechnology industry has grown rapidly in recent years. In recognition of the important role of standards and conformity assessment activities in support of this industry and its trade initiatives, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will convene a biotechnology standards strategy meeting on January 10, 2008, in Washington, DC.

The meeting is being held in advance of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Council Standard Committee on Strategies meeting on January 21-22, 2008, where committee members are expected to begin discussions on international standards development activities in the biotechnology field.

As the U.S. member body to ISO and coordinator of the U.S. voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment system, ANSI has invited biotechnology and standardization policy experts from the public and private sectors to participate in the January 10 meeting. By offering their input and expertise, attendees will help ensure effective U.S. leadership of and participation in the ISO biotechnology initiative and any related international standardization activities.

Meeting attendance is by invitation only; interested parties are welcome to contact Mr. Steven Cornish (scornish@ansi.org) for additional information or to express interest in attending.
