ANSI EESCC Begins Development of Energy Efficiency Standardization Roadmap

Working Groups Announce June-July Workshops in Washington, DC; Stakeholder Organizations Invited to Join the EESCC's Effort

New York – The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Energy Efficiency Standardization Coordination Collaborative (EESCC) is moving into the next phase of its effort to develop a standardization roadmap advancing energy efficiency in the built environment. The collaborative's five working groups (WGs) have scheduled a series of June-July workshops in Washington, DC, to begin the gap analysis and roadmapping phases of work. Stakeholder organizations interested in joining this effort are encouraged to visit www.ansi.org/eescc and to contact eescc@ansi.org.

The EESCC is a cross-sector group working to increase the awareness, adoption, and implementation of standards, codes, and conformance programs among policy makers and the market. More than 140 technical experts from more than 50 member organizations and 4 federal agencies are currently involved.

The EESCC roadmap will identify current and forthcoming standards, codes, and conformance programs, pinpoint potential gaps, and articulate what additional standardization activities may be needed to advance energy efficiency relative to the built environment. The first draft of the EESCC roadmap is expected by October 2013, with the final version anticipated for publication by mid-2014.

As part of the EESCC's transition into the roadmapping phase, the collaborative's five working groups will hold in-person workshops in June and July 2013; interested stakeholders may R.S.V.P. to eescc@ansi.org by Tuesday, May 28. Please note that space is limited and advanced registration is required. All workshops will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST:

During its information-gathering phase, the collaborative collected input on more than 500 documents, 150 conformance programs, and a dozen perceived gaps via the EESCC Inventory Database. As a cornerstone tool of the collaborative’s efforts, the EESCC Inventory will play a critical role in the development of the roadmap. To help ensure a complete and accurate inventory, stakeholders are invited to review the EESCC Inventory Database and to contribute additional relevant information, including perceived gaps, for consideration by the working groups. Online entry forms for submitting information to the EESCC Inventory are available at www.ansi.org/eescc.

Joining the EESCC

Broad and varied participation is essential to ensuring that important decisions on the future of energy efficiency are made through consensus and collaboration. The EESCC encourages interested parties to become involved in its work by joining the collaborative. EESCC members have the opportunity to:

Influence the standardization strategies that impact energy efficiency services and technologies

Demonstrate their commitment to U.S. energy independence and economic growth

Help promote the adoption of energy efficiency solutions through standardization

Take part in crafting input to policymakers on the use of voluntary consensus standards for energy efficiency needs

Access early information on key energy efficiency initiatives and technologies

About the EESCC

The ANSI Energy Efficiency Standardization Coordination Collaborative (EESCC) is a cross-sector, neutral forum and focal point for broad-based coordination among energy efficiency activities involving or impacted by standardization (i.e., standards, codes, conformance activities) and regulations. The objective of the collaborative is to assess the standardization landscape, and carry out the development of a standardization roadmap for energy efficiency within the built environment.

The EESCC is led by highly-esteemed co-chairs from the public and private sectors: Benjamin Goldstein, energy efficiency workforce development and standards coordinator in the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, and John Tuccillo, vice president of global industry and government alliances at Schneider Electric, and president and chairman of the board of The Green Grid.
