November ANSI Caucus to Feature Cybersecurity Expert Melissa Hathaway

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is pleased to announce that the next monthly ANSI Caucus Luncheon will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010. The meeting will feature remarks from cybersecurity expert Melissa Hathaway, continuing ANSI's ongoing efforts in developing and promoting concrete solutions for mitigating cyber risk.

Ms. Hathaway is president of Hathaway Global Strategies, LLC, and senior advisor at Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center. She formerly served as senior director for cyberspace at the National Security Council under the Obama administration, and as cyber coordination executive and director of the Joint Interagency Cyber Task Force in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence during President George W. Bush's administration.

From February to May 2009, Ms. Hathaway led President Obama's 60-Day Cyberspace Policy Review, assembling a team of experienced government cyber experts to inventory relevant presidential policy directives, executive orders, national strategies, and studies from government advisory boards and private sector entities. The Review found that American business losses due to cyber attacks had grown to more than $1 trillion of intellectual property between 2008 and 2009. As a result of these findings, the President asked for a program that would help assign monetary value to cyber risks and consequences, giving organizations greater ability and incentive to address cybersecurity.

In direct response to the President's request, ANSI and the Internet Security Alliance (ISA) jointly published The Financial Management of Cyber Risk: An Implementation Framework for CFOs, which introduces a framework for managing and reducing the financial risk related to cyber attacks. Sponsored by Symantec, the document is offered as a free resource for organizations across the country. To download the document, visit webstore.ansi.org/cybersecurity.

The November 12 Caucus will be held from 11:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the National Press Club (529 14th Street, NW, Zenger Room) in Washington, DC. RSVPs are requested by Tuesday, November 9, 2010.

To RSVP, communicate special dietary requests, or for more information on caucus luncheons, please contact Miranda Der Ohanian (mderohanian@ansi.org; 202.331.3613).

The November Caucus is sponsored by the American National Standards Institute.
