ANSI Board approves ANSI/AMCA standard 550-09.

On November 16, 2009, the Board of Standards Review of ANSI approved ANSI/AMCA Standard 550-09, Test Method for High Velocity Wind Driven Rain Resistant Louvers. It was previously approved by AMCA membership on July 26, 2008, before ANSI approval process. Standard is intended to demonstrate acceptability of louver installations in essential/nonessential facilities that remain in operation during high-velocity wind conditions, and where water infiltration must be managed.

ANSI/AMCA STANDARD 550-09, "Test Method for High Velocity Wind Driven Rain Resistant Louvers"
Arlington Heights, IL, USA - The Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA International) announced that the Board of Standards Review of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the following document on November 16, 2009; ANSI/AMCA STANDARD 550-09, "Test Method for High Velocity Wind Driven Rain Resistant Louvers." This standard was previously approved by the AMCA membership on July 26, 2008, and then sent to ANSI to begin approval process. 550-09 establishes uniform laboratory test methods and minimum performance ratings for water rejection capabilities of louvers intended to be used in high velocity wind conditions.
The scope of ANSI/AMCA 550-09 is intended to demonstrate the acceptability of louver installations in facilities (essential and non-essential) that will remain in operation during high velocity wind conditions, and where water infiltration must be kept to manageable amounts.

AMCA International is accredited by ANSI as a standards developer using the "canvass" method. The canvass method provides and promotes a process that verifies the principles of openness have been followed in the approval procedure.
