AIA Encouraged by Passage of House FAA Reauthorization Bill
Arlington, Va. - AIA supports the FAA Reauthorization and Reform Act of 2011 (H.R. 658) approved by the U.S. House April 1.
"We're very pleased that the House has passed this vital piece of legislation," said AIA President and CEO Marion C. Blakey. "After almost four years without a new authorization Congress is finally poised to move the transformation of our air transportation system forward."
The 21st Century air traffic management system known as NextGen will mean more safety and efficiency, lower noise and emissions, and billions of dollars in economic and environmental benefits.
"NextGen doesn't benefit any one company, state or government agency," Blakey said. "It's simply the key to unlock the unlimited potential efficient air transport brings to U.S. commerce and tourism."
AIA also commends the House's acknowledgement of the benefits of bilateral aviation safety agreements. These agreements increase FAA's efficiency, enhance FAA's international safety oversight and help protect U.S. jobs.
"On issues like safety oversight and the advancement of NextGen, this bill is very much in step with the Senate bill that was passed in February," said Blakey. "We look forward to working with the conference committee on final passage."
