AIA announces Vice Chair of Camera Link® Committee.

Change of Camera Link® Committee Vice-Chair Appointment Announced
(Ann Arbor, Michigan - July 1, 2008) Reynold Dodson, President of BitFlow, Inc., has replaced Tony Iglesias from National Instruments, as the Vice-Chair for the Camera Link® Committee. This is a technical committee made up of industry representatives responsible for the continuing development of the standard, led by long-time Chair Steve Kinney, Director of Technical Pre-Sales and Support for JAI. "We want to thank Tony for his years of service to the committee and his many contributions on behalf of Camera Link®. We look forward to continued enhancements to the standard under Reynold's guidance,' said Jeff Fryman, Director, Standards Development at the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), the hosting body of this industry standard.
The Automated Imaging Association (AIA), the global trade group that oversees the ongoing development and administration of the standard, also recently held a Camera Link® committee meeting during The Vision Show in Boston, Massachusetts, to keep the standard progressing. There were many new products displayed at The Vision Show that use the Camera Link® protocol.
The Camera Link® and the new PoCL® logos assure customers that the equipment they purchase has been certified as compliant. It is the industry's goal to ensure that all Camera Link® components on the market have been tested and certified to communicate seamlessly with each other not only now, but also down the road, allowing for truly interoperable solutions.
Camera Link® is a robust communications link using a dedicated cable connection and a standardized communications protocol. This standard connection allows like configured components to freely exchange data. Currently in release is version 1.2 of the Camera Link® standard, which continues to update and enhance the multiple capabilities.
About Camera Link®
Camera Link® is a communication interface for vision applications. The interface extends the base technology of Channel Link® to provide a specification more useful for vision applications.
Prior to the introduction of the standard, the scientific and industrial digital video market lacked a standard method of communication. Both frame grabbers and camera manufacturers developed products using available connectors, making cable production more costly and prevented interoperability of components for the consumers. A connectivity standard between digital cameras and frame grabbers was long overdue and was satisfied with the creation of the Camera Link® standard.
The Camera Link® interface reduces support time, as well as the cost of that support. The standard cable is able to handle the high bandwidth requirements, and the cable assembly allows customers to reduce their costs through volume pricing.
