AFS Society to accept award nominations.

To recognize contributions made by Society members, AFS Society is accepting nominations for awards until March 1, 2013. Wells Shoemaker Award recognizes lifetime of outstanding leadership and exceptional service to AFS Society, while Frank Tiller Award recognizes lifetime of scientific and engineering achievements in the Technology of Fluid-Particle Separation. Others include: Fellow Member Award; Young Scientist Award, and Senior Scientist Award.

AFS Award Nominations



It is very important that we recognize the works of the hard working members of our society. We have progressed from a concept in 1987 to a vibrant leading educational society covering the broad and varying aspects of Filtration and Separation. This has not been done without significant contribution by a large number dedicated of Society members. Please help us recognize these contributors whom have been instrumental in the success of our Society and the progress made in the fields of Filtration and Separation.



On March 1, 2013 nominations for the AFS Society awards listed below are due. Please take some time to view each award and respond.



Selection Process:

•Â Â Â  Members submit nominations to the Awards Committee.

•Â Â Â  The Awards Committee review the nominations and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors based on the criteria listed above.

•Â Â Â  Nominee must be an active member of the AFS.

Award Notification and Presentation:

•Â Â Â  Award presentation will be held at the AFS Annual Technical Conference & Expo.

•Â Â Â  Plaque presentation ceremony at award luncheon.

It is with great pleasure that we invite nominations for deserving recipients of the American Filtration and Separations Society annual awards.  The five possible awards are:



Wells Shoemaker Award - established in 1989 and was named in honor of Mr. Wells Shoemaker, who was a key-founding member of the AFS. He epitomizes the characteristics of Leadership and Service. This award recognizes individuals for a lifetime of outstanding leadership and exceptional service to the American Filtration & Separations Society, which have resulted in significant and demonstrable benefits to the Society’s members.  The AFS will bestow one award per year when a deserving candidate is available. Frank Tiller Award - established in 1989, named in honor of Dr. Frank Tiller, the internationally acclaimed “Father of Modern Filtration Theory” and key founding member of the AFS, this award highlights scientific merit. The TILLER AWARD recognizes individuals for outstanding lifetime scientific and engineering achievements in the Technology of Fluid-Particle Separation.  The AFS will bestow one award per year when a deserving candidate is available. Fellow Member Award - Established in 1996 to honor individuals who have made superior contributions of organization and leadership to the Society for many years.  Fellow Members are entitled to all the benefits of regular membership with waiver of annual dues.  Fellow Members may attend AFS sponsored conferences with waiver of registration fees.  This is a lifetime membership.  The AFS will give one award per year when a deserving candidate is available. Nominee must have been an active AFS member for at least 10 years. Online nomination form



Young Scientist Award - Established in 1999 to honor individuals at the beginning of their career who have made important contributions to the Technology of Filtration and Separation.  Candidates must meet the following requirements. Online nomination form



Criteria:

•Â Â Â  Must be a member of AFS Society at the times of nomination and award presentation and have been an active participant in Society activities in the previous two calendar years (2011 and 2012).

•Â Â Â  Must be not more than 5 years out of school and working professionally in academia or industry.

•Â Â Â  Must have made important contributions to the field of Filtration and Separations as demonstrated by publication of at least three papers in professional conference proceedings or professional journals in the previous 5 years.  At least one of these papers must have been published in AFS conference proceedings or in F/PSJ.

•Â Â Â  Previous winners are ineligible.



Senior Scientist Award - Established in 1999 to honor individuals in the middle of their career who make a significant contribution to the Technology of Filtration and Separation.  Candidates should meet the following requirements. Online nomination form



Criteria:

•Â Â Â  Must be a member of AFS Society at the times of nomination and award presentation and have been an active participant in Society activities in the previous two calendar years (2011 and 2012).

•Â Â Â  Be more than five years out of school and working professionally in academia or industry.

•Â Â Â  Have made significant contributions to Filtration and Separations as demonstrated by publication of at least 10 papers in professional conference proceedings or professional journals in the previous 10 years.  A minimum of 5 of these papers must have been published in AFS conference proceedings or in F/PSJ.

•Â Â Â  Previous winners are ineligible.
