AEM at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008

Focus on worker safety, worker shortages and industry grass roots political action

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) will have a significant exhibit presence at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 to promote worker safety and a quality future workforce, as well as increased grass roots involvement in the democratic process.

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 runs March 11-15, 2008 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, USA.

Visit AEM at its main Booth L 3224 as well as Booth L 3218, which focuses on AEM safety. Both are located in the Grand Lobby between North Hall and Central Hall.

Construction Challenge Finals

A featured attraction at the AEM main booth - L 3224 - is the final competitions in the AEM Construction Challenge, a teen-focused program to interest students in construction industry careers and emphasize the industry's positive impact on quality of life.

The Construction Challenge finals will take place daily March 11-13 at AEM Booth L 3224. The 51 finalist teams will compete in three challenges: presentations on infrastructure related issues, creation of products that teach about construction careers and equipment, and a "road warrior" challenge course using team-created "construction equipment." Challenge winners earn scholarships and other prizes.

AEM will offer special show edition scale model wheel loaders at its CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 booth - L 3224. AEM will also spotlight its safety materials at Booth L 3218.

Win a CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 Limited Edition Machinery Model

Visitors to AEM Booth L 3224 have the chance to win a limited edition CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 scale model wheel loader, with proceeds helping to support the Challenge and other AEM workforce-development activities.

To win a model, visitors first use the AEM booth computers to send a formatted email letter to Congress promoting federal transportation and water infrastructure funding. They can then spin a special wheel with a one-in-three chance to win a model. The silver die-cast metal models can also be purchased prior to the show through the AEM website (www.aem.org) for $40 each.

The Congressional letter-writing campaign is part of a special section of the AEM booth promoting industry grass roots political action. AEM has partnered with the Business Industry Political Action Committee (BIPAC) to provide member companies with resources that help their employees learn more about and get involved in the legislative process. The BIPAC materials are online through the AEM website, or AEM member companies can offer them through their own employee websites.

Resource for Safety Training Materials and Free Industry Pictorial Database

AEM has long promoted safety on the worksite, and it has developed and produced more than 80 product-specific manuals, videos, guidelines, bulletins, decals and related safety and educational materials.

Association safety materials will be available for review at AEM Booth L 3218 and sold at the show store. (Association safety materials are always available online at www.safetymaterials.org - AEM store.)

Visitors to the AEM safety booth L 3218 can enter daily drawings to win a Leatherman Skeletool CX multitool and 42-bit assortment. The tool is winner of the 2008 Gear of the Year award from "National Geographic Adventure" magazine.

AEM safety materials offer an easy and cost-effective way to provide instruction specifically for equipment operators, maintenance personnel and others on the job site. The materials contain job-proven and time-tested suggestions to promote safety-conscious attitudes and performance, aid worker productivity, minimize downtime and lessen repair costs.

Also featured at the AEM safety booth L 3218 will be the latest additions to AEM's Pictorial Database, a free resource to help companies communicate safety messages effectively through consistent use of industry recognized pictorial images.

AEM introduced the database in 2006 and it now contains more than 130 images that depict general equipment hazards and situations to avoid. The images can be downloaded in scalable graphic fields in EPS and DXF formats.

Later in 2008 AEM will expand the image selection with another group of industry sector-specific pictorials, which are focused on hazards that may exist on a specific type of equipment or in a specific application.

Other AEM Activities in Conjunction with CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008

AEM is hosting financial analysts at the show in a special Industry Investor Conference designed to help member company exhibitors and the entire industry gain exposure to the important Wall Street audience. Sponsors are JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs Group and Citigroup Investment Research. AEM initiated the investor conference at the 1999 CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

AEM is hosting global technical and statistics meetings in conjunction with CONEXPO-CON/AGG to help members deal with worldwide technical trade barriers and to provide quality international market data for the U.S., European Union countries, Japan and Pacific Rim countries. The events are the Joint Technical Liaison Committee (JTLM), the International Crane Technical Liaison Committee and the Intercontinental Statistical Committee. AEM is a founding member of these groups and has been instrumental in their development as respected international resources for the construction equipment manufacturing industry.
