AEM Offers Seminars on Product Safety and Product Liability

Sessions help manufacturers analyze and enhance safety programs

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) will conduct its annual product safety seminar April 21-23, 2008, followed by its yearly product liability seminar April 24, both at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre in Dallas, Texas.

The seminars are the only ones of their kind designed by and specifically for manufacturers of agricultural, construction, forestry, mining and utility equipment.

The AEM product safety seminar will feature expert industry and business presenters sharing experiences and information essential to today's product safety professionals. Topics include essentials of an effective product safety program, safety sign and decal development, fire prevention design guidelines, international issues such as the CE Mark and European Union directives, and new American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards for warning materials in owner manuals.

A special roundtable session will focus on the research agenda of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Attendees will hear from NIOSH on what agenda changes are planned, based on previous AEM member input, and will have the opportunity to provide additional commentary.

The AEM product liability seminar will explore the preparation required to present a successful courtroom defense. It builds on last year's seminar, which discussed the value of pre-trial planning and preparation. Experienced trial attorneys and corporate counsel will lead the sessions, which include a review of federal e-discovery rules that took effect December 2006.

AEM's annual product safety and product liability seminars are open to full-time employees of equipment manufacturers and their designated outside service professionals. They are geared to beginner as well as experienced industry professionals and are especially beneficial to small and medium-sized manufacturers with more limited internal resources.

Attendees participating in both events receive a liability seminar registration discount. AEM's educational programming offers CEU - Continuing Education Credits to provide extra value to attendees. Complete seminar details and registration information are posted online in the "education" section of the AEM website - www.aem.org.
