Press release date: August 3, 2006

AEC is very pleased and excited to announce the newest addition to their automation product line, the HRX-Series Full Servo Extraction Robot from Harmo, Japan's premier robotics and automation systems manufacturer. At NPE 2006, the HRX Series made its North American debut with the showing of an HRX-150Si, fully user-programmable, three axis, full-servo robot, at AEC booth number 1802.

The uniquely intelligent "iController" represents a significant advancement in fully user programmable controls capability. Featuring an ergonomically designed light-weight large-format, color touch-screen hand-held user interface, the controls offer screen layout customization and text editing to maximize operator familiarity. The series is further enhanced by a Global Standard Open Network (DeviceNet), which makes available a tremendous number of Input/Output channels with the molding machine, and a wide variety of secondary process auxiliaries. With this network you are able to create an I/O and name the I/O. All user created I/O are also stored to an easily accessible onboard library for later use. The control cabinet is traverse beam-end mounted, freeing up floor space. The unit can also be ordered with an optional floor-based cabinet.

Other control features include On-Board Memory for 100 Molds and Flash Card storage for hundreds more and are also USB port equipped and network ready. Access to all control functions is enhanced by a standard voice guidance system. All axis movements during teach mode are easily engaging using soft-touch keys and a JOG Dial; positions and speeds are also teachable on-the-fly. The controls also feature multiple levels of password protection and have a screen saver mode. An optional off-line programming package is also available.

The HRX Series is available to automate horizontal injection molding machines ranging from 40-1100 tons in both three and five axis configurations. Units are available with single or two-stage telescopic vertical arms, while the two-stage configuration is standard on units for 300 tons and larger, allowing for easy placement in low ceiling environments. The telescopic vertical arm also provides for greater vertical axis speeds on larger presses due to the compound arm construction method. HRX Series features the highest quality linear guides on all axis' employing THK linear rail and bearing systems. The kick frame provides more rigidity for enhanced support and repeatability while the thick-walled aluminum extrusion traverse with ridged steel sub-weldment offers vibration suppression and maximum resistance to deflection during critical operations. The ultra-thin wrist flip unit requires reduced mold-open strokes and can pick from either mold halve without mechanical adjustments and can flip-on-the-fly!

In addition to industry leading automation products, AEC always offers full support from start-up to training 24-hour on-call service. Further AEC product offerings include heating and cooling, blending and reclaim, material handling, size reduction, downstream extrusion and systems contracting.
