ACGIH Presents Explosive Dusts in Industrial Ventilation Systems WEBINAR
Cincinnati, Ohio - September 14, 2009 - ACGIH® will present Explosive Dusts in Industrial Ventilation Systems on January 27, 2010 at the following times:
2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time)
1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Central Time)
12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Mountain Time)
11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Pacific Time)
Combustible dust explosions may not be the first hazard the industrial hygienist or safety professional thinks about when reviewing their ventilation design plan, but it is more common and more dangerous than one might realize. Recent industrial dust explosion occurrences have caused deaths and other serious injuries such that industrial hygienists and other safety professionals should consider all options available to them to safeguard their facility. Thus, the ACGIH® Industrial Ventilation Committee is hosting this webinar aimed at educating the EH&S community on the importance of preparing for and preventing dust related incidents in industrial ventilation systems. This webinar will explain how dust explosions occur, how to employ both dust control and ignition control methods to prevent dust explosions, and how to maintain compliance with current and future regulations.
After participating in this webinar, attendees will understand:
o The mechanism of how dust explosions occur in the workplace.
o How to formulate a knowledge-based plan on how to approach an explosive dust situation in their facility.
o How to determine if the type of dust in their facility will support an explosion or deflagration.
o The regulatory framework that exists today and is being enforced, and which local authority has jurisdiction in their area as well as the status of federally enforceable legislation for the future.
o How to prevent explosions and deflagrations in the workplace.

Jonathan F. Hale, MS and Marty Schloss, PE will present this webinar.
Jonathan F. Hale, MS is the founder and co-owner of Air System Corporation & Diagnostics, an innovator in the industrial pollution-control industry. Mr. Hale has also worked as an EPA inspector and permits engineer. He is the winner of two national level ASHRAE awards for excellence in energy efficient design of industrial ventilation systems and is the co-chair of the North Carolina Industrial Ventilation Conference. Mr. Hale obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest University and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Appalachian State University. He is a member of the ACGIH® Industrial Ventilation Committee.
Marty Schloss, PE is the General Manager, southeast operations, for KBD/Technic, Inc., a CECO Environmental Company. Previously, Mr. Schloss was the founder of Schloss & Associates, a professional engineering firm founded in 1999. He was also the Operations Manager for Pneumafil, an air pollution control equipment manufacturer and design-build contractor. He authored an article on upgrading indoor air filtration for improved air quality for Filtration & Separation Magazine. Mr. Schloss earned a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from Pennsylvania State University and participated in the Manufacturing Executive Program at the University of Michigan.
This webinar has been approved by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) for .42 ABIH (IH) Certification Maintenance (CM) Point. This webinar qualifies for .15 BCSP (SP) Continuance of Certification (COC) Point for Certified Safety Professionals. Participants seeking CM and/or COC points must attend the live webinar or view the archive and submit a final exam and evaluation. Certificates of Completion will be issued in a timely manner after receipt and completion of these items.
